ISLAMABAD: A special audit of the aborted Rawalpindi Ring Road (R3) project has been ordered, which will run parallel to the inquiries being simultaneously conducted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) of Punjab.
A letter issued by the Directorate of Audit Works (Provincial), Lahore, a copy of which was provided to The News by a source, has requisitioned the record relating to the R3 project from the Rawalpindi commissioner/project director.
The letter asked the commissioner to attach with the audit team a focal person not below the rank of grade-17 for the early production of the record and smooth working during the period of the special audit.

Auditors who are examining votes in Windham, New Hampshire, may have figured out why initial results showed a discrepancy in the vote count for a Democratic candidate.
Republicans in Windham, New Hampshire, won all four seats in the legislative election on Nov. 3, but a Democratic candidate, Kristi St. Lauren, requested a recount, which was granted because she lost by only 24 votes.
However, during a hand recount, it was revealed that she didn’t lose by 24 votes. Instead, the effort revealed that the GOP candidates had actually received 300 additional votes, while St. Laurent Lost 99 votes.
On April 27, the central bank had issued guidelines for appointment of statutory auditors in commercial banks, non-banking financial companies and housing finance companies that included a cap on the number of audits by an audit firm, joint audits in some businesses, a cooling off period, non-audit restrictions, and a reduced three-year audit tenure.
